Travel by public transport
You can take the car ferry directly to Kvarøy from Tonnes six days a week. All days except Saturday.
The fast ferry Nordlandsekspressen, NEX or ækspræssn as we call it, visits Kvarøy on south and northbound routes. This makes it possible to travel from Sandnessjøen and Bodø straight to Kvarøy.
Within the municipality, there is the Nesøy speedboat that runs around. This stops by in the morning and afternoon, and some days in the morning as well.
These boats make it possible to get to Kvarøy, and not least to visit several places in Lurøy and Rødøy while you’re here or passing through.
Via the website reisnordland.no you can search for your itinerary by speedboat, ferry and bus. Here you can also buy tickets in advance and check that the departure is on time.
New ferry route to Kvarøy
Even if you don’t need a car on Kvarøy, it can be convenient to travel to the island by car. Then you can pack all your stuff in the car and drive all the way to the door of your sea house, and the ferry ride is completely free! This new route, which is pictured, will start as early as 01.02.25, and you will then have the opportunity to travel to and from Kvarøy every weekday and Sunday. At slightly different times, but it gives us who live here and you as guests a greater freedom to travel to us on Kvarøy. You will now travel to Kvarøy from Tonnes with Route 18-412 Rødøybassenget, and applies to the period 01.02.2025 – 31.01.2026.
Flexible travel
If you can’t find a time that suits you to travel by public transport, we have a shuttle boat on Kvarøy. With us, you can book transportation together with your accommodation so that you can travel at a time that suits you better.
Our shuttle boat takes 12 people and has plenty of space for luggage. The journey between Tonnes and Kvarøy takes less than 10 minutes. We’ll pick you up at Tonnes Marina, more specifically the southern harbor almost all the way out on the pier. There’s free parking and little traffic, so your car can be left in peace while you’re on an island vacation.
